Tony Blairs new right hand man is Monsantos spin doctor David Hill

David Hill, has spent the past five years as boss of Lord Tim Bell’s Good Relations PR company, advising a range of clients which include supermarket group Tesco, Nestle, Coca Cola, Nirex (the nuclear reprocessing company) and Monsanto, the GM crop experts. Good Relations are a subsidiary of Labour sponsors and Thatcher’s buddies Chime Communications, who spend £3.5m a year on lobbying.

Recent lobbying successes include convincing the Government to drop the ban on gambling with credit cards and helping Securicor to secure private contracts in the prison service. Michael Meacher, who was dismissed as Environment Minister this year, said that Mr Hill’s links with Monsanto made him unfit for the role.

As a PR consultant Mr Hill apparently charged £225 an hour for advice to the US biotech company, which is at the centre of a row over the safety of genetically modified crops. Mr Meacher said: ”I am concerned at Mr Blai’’s judgment. I am concerned that the new director of communications used to be employed as a paid lobbyist for Monsanto.”

David Hills Appointment comes just months before the governments release on its unpopular GM trail
